Anti-foreigner protesters in Osaka hold signs calling for foreigners to leave the country.

I am an assistant professor of sociology at College of DuPage. Previously I taught at the College of International Relations at Ritsumeikan University. I completed my doctorate in sociology at the University of California-Davis in the United States. I’m a qualitative researcher, and I use ethnographic methods to study the incorporation of Japanese Peruvian immigrants into Japanese society.

With my students, I manage the blog JAPANsociology. The blog explores life in Japan, focusing on issues related to immigration and diversity.

If you’re a current or former student and would like me to write you a letter of reference, please use this link.
